Thanks to mandatory US Civics in HS, the ear-worm songs of Schoolhouse Rock and, more recently rly Hamilton, and a 60-year love affair with American history, this little test was a breeze.

My ancestors came to the US from Germany between 1869 and 1889, and all were naturalized at the end of their 5-year probation. And, although for most that took place before 1906 when this test was begun, I know of at least four earlier arrivals who re-naturalized after 1906, and would have taken a similar test.

I could not be any more proud 🥹 of them all.

Quite pleased with this Canadian! I scored 76 out of 96 questions, giving me a passing score of 79% (I eliminated the 4 that had to do with knowing who my local representatives were).

Perhaps it helps that I grew up in Windsor, Ontario--practically the 51st state 😊

The article doesn’t define “passing grade”. Is 97/100 passing? I assume so. Disappointed I didn’t get 100. Misspelt my representative’s name so took that as a wrong answer.

Remember the actual test is an oral exam so misspelling is fine. I mention in passing that for the actual test, the candidates need to get six correct out of 10 so 60% is a passing score. Nice job getting an A.

This is surprisingly similar to the end of term exam I took in my eighth-grade social studies class. The entire term was a study of the constitution and make-up/functions of the federal government. I remember being fascinated by the simple elegance and balance of the design created by our founding fathers. I loved that class and was so proud that mine was the only perfect score on the final exam.

Sadly, over the half-century since, I have been forced to endure the constant attempts by people like Leonard Leo and The Federalist Society, The Heritage Foundation, and Republican politicians to try and exploit what they see as loopholes in the system to gather power and wealth for themselves while “We The People” are given short shrift.

The system is teetering on the edge of destruction and whatever faults the current system may have I guarantee whatever replaces it will be far worse for the overwhelming majority of people.

I didn’t do this one but I think I would do well enough to qualify.

I also remember those good old days when we learned this in school. I’m sometimes shocked how brazen those who oppose the Constitution are. I’m doing my best to remain optimistic that our system of government will save us in the end. Thanks for commenting and did you get a perfect score this time around?
